Team of the Weekend – Week 15

David-Moyes-Manchester-United-1024_3023549It was another incredible weekend of Football in the Premier League, with none of Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester Utd, Manchester City, Everton or Southampton winning. In fact, it was only Liverpool, Tottenham and Newcastle in the top half that managed to get 3 points! Talk about an open championship (we called it early doors)…here’s out team of the weekend, from the 15th round of matches in the Premier League:

GK – John Ruddy: It was a very important victory for Norwich away at West Brom on Saturday, one which will buy their manager Chris Hughton some more time that’s for sure. Ruddy was instrumental in the win, recording 10 saves, the most of any keeper this weekend.

RB – Mathieu Debuchy: Not the first time the Newcastle Right back has made it into our team and if he can keep up his fine form, it won’t be his last. Debuchy looks like a bargain for the £5 million fee that was paid for him over a year ago.

CB – Fabricio Coloccini: When you go to Utd and keep a clean sheet, you know you’re doing something right. Newcastle did just that, even though it’s a Utd side not on form, it’s still a great achievement winning at Old Trafford. Coloccini was a monster at the back for the Magpies, what a good job Pardew has done in convincing the Argentine to stay at the club.

CB – Sebastien Bassong: We loved Bassong last year, but in truth he’s had a pretty poor season so far. That all changed on Saturday though, with him and Turner producing a class display at the Hawthorns to ensure his side got all 3 points.

LB – Luke Shaw: Luke Shaw has got a ridiculous amount of potential. We know that. You know that. Our Milkman knows that. Shaw completed 86% of his passes, made 3 key passes and delivered 8 crosses against Manchester City. When you’re just 18 years old and playing this well against City, you know you’ve got a big career ahead of you.

RM – Andre Schurrle: We were excited by the thought of Schurrle in the Premier League, but he hasn’t done a lot so far. But against Stoke on Saturday he was head and shoulders above anyone else on the pitch. He scored twice and rattled the cross bar for what would have been his first hat-trick for Chelsea. Despite the loss, hes the FootballDons Don of the week.

CM – Cheick Tiote: A couple of seasons back Tiote was rated as one of the best defensive Midfielders in England. A disappointing campaign last year seemed to blunt his progress, but this year he’s looked back to his best, especially alongside Cabaye in the middle of the park. He’d be a great signing for Utd.

LM – Stephen Ireland: There was a six month period at his time at City where we loved Ireland. He was neat, clever and involved in everything. But for one reason or another, he hasn’t been able to replicate that form since. On Saturday, he was that player that we loved again.

CAM – Ross Barkley: What. A. Player. If he carries on like this, he has to be on the plane to Brazil.

STR – Luis Suarez: We might as well keep Suarez in this team full time you know. It wasn’t his best performance and wasn’t vintage Suarez, but he still managed to grab a goal and a couple of assists, which sounds to us like a good day at the office.

STR – Dimitar Berbatov: There’s something rather sexual about watching Dimitar Berbatov grace around a Football pitch. Of course if things aren’t going his way, he can be incredibly irritating. A proper marmite Footballer.
